Korean Gen Z really wants to work at Samsung

Korean Gen Z really wants to work at Samsung

Samsung has an incredibly long history, having been founded back in 1938 as a trading company that sold dried fish and noodles. Almost nine decades later, it dominates as one of the leading global conglomerates that does everything from construction, shipbuilding, pharmaceuticals, semiconductor manufacturing, consumer electronics, and mobile devices.

Many former titans of the industry has come and gone during this period but Samsung has continued to adapt and evolve. Such is its staying power that a recent poll found Samsung as the top choice for Gen Z workers in South Korea.

There's a certain prestige that's attached to working at Samsung

A survey was conducted of 1,986 Gen Z college students, job seekers, and office workers in South Korea. Participants were asked to rank the companies they would want to work for in order of preference.

32% of the respondents ranked Samsung as their first choice. 19% ranked SK, of SK Hynix fame, in second place. CJ and Hyundai Motor were ranked in third place with 12% votes respectively. Not only did Samsung score the highest with new entrants to the job market but also experienced employees voted in its favor.

Participants further explained why they chose Samsung. 44% of those that made it their first choice said it was due to the image, given Samsung's outsized presence in South Korea, having a job there is certainly something to be proud of. 19% opted for it due to welfare and 11% due to growth possibilities.

It's impressive that Samsung continues to attract top talent across generations. The company has been around in South Korea for long enough that some of these Gen Zs who want to work there now may have had grandparents that also worked at Samsung.
